Stillbirth ABVs now available for dairy cattle

DataGene has introduced two new Stillbirth Australian Breeding Values (ABVs) designed to help dairy producers reduce calf losses caused by stillbirths; the leading cause of death in Australian dairy calves. Available across all dairy breeds, the new Sire Stillbirth and Maternal Stillbirth ABVs provide a genetic tool to identify animals with a lower risk of stillbirth and support long-term herd improvement.

Research has shown there is sufficient genetic variation within breeds to make meaningful progress through selection, with farmers encouraged to choose animals with Stillbirth ABVs below zero. The new ABVs are now available through the Good Bulls App, DataVat and genomic heifer results.
